MiG deal conducted outside accepted procurement procedures

It has been revealed in court that the MiG deal which took place during the Rajapaksa government was conducted outside accepted procurement procedures. This was revealed when the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division presented facts in court yesterday (August 27) on the investigations carried out over the purchase of MiG aircraft to the Sri Lanka Air Force from Ukraine.

According to the report, the fact that the purchase was made outside of the procurement procedure was evident based on the statements given by 7 Sri Lanka Air Force officers including Air Marshal Donald Perera, Roshan Gunatilleke and Air Vice Marshal Lalith Samarawickrema who helped to reveal its true status.

The Officer in Charge of the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division, Chief Inspector Nihal Francis presented facts to the court yesterday. The Chief Inspector has further stated in court that steps have been taken to deport former Ambassador to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga under the extradition law. He added the case was taken up before the Dubai courts the day before yesterday.
