Four protesters have been injured when the Police attempted to disperse the protest in Kalliyankaadu, Batticaloa yesterday (August 27).  Police said two women and two men were injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Batticaloa Hospital.

In the meantime, a special security program has been put in place near the Kalliyankaadu area. The Police said measures have been taken to deploy additional security personnel to the area if necessary.

Area residents had launched a protest in opposition against the burial of suicide bomber responsible for the 21st April attack in Batticoloa. The head of the suicide bomber responsible for bombing the Zion Church in Batticaloa was buried at the Kalliyankadu Cemetary the day before yesterday, on a Court order.

Area residents complained that this had been done without their consent, and hence they launched a protest march. The protesters demanded that the suicide bombers remains be buried elsewhere.
