MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara responded to several media inquiries about C.V. Wigneswaran emerging as a Presidential candidate.

The parliamentarian says that he has not heard of any such comments being made and that they are only rumours. He also said that if Vigneswaran chooses to contest against the TNA, that the same amount of TNA votes will not be given to the UNP.

MP Nanayakkara says that if it happens in this manner that the SLPP will be at advantage because some of the TNA votes will be lost to the UNP.

When he was questioned on MP Navin Dissanayake’s statement on the North and the East needing police and land powers, the MP responded that currently if the TNA is going to the North Provincial Council that they cannot take these two steps but also added that if the Northern provincial council is headed by Devananda, these two steps can easily be implemented.

The parliamentarian was also questioned on a statement made by a certain individual named Wartharaja Perumal who was present on the 11th at the SLPP Convention, on needing a separate Eelam state. MP Nanayakkara responded that the statement was made in a different situation and that it was not given out as an idea.

The parliamentarian added that he got together with them with an agreement if he had made such a statement that he will take it back.
