Twelve suspects in possession of narcotics were arrested at the Mirissa fisheries harbour as they got ready to set off on a voyage.
Police said that the raid was carried out based on a tip-off received by the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Matara Division. A stock of unidentified narcotics, hashish, Ice and Kerala Ganja were seized. Among the arrested suspects were three women.
The suspects aged between 20 and 26 are residents of Galle, Kurunegala, Homagama, Moratuwa, Ganemulla, Ratmalana, Wattala, Matara, Weligama, Kelanimulla and Hadaganawa.
The suspects are to be produced before the Matara Magistrate today (July 14).
