It is reported that over 500 acres of forest area were burnt to ashes by a fire which spread across the Maragala Mountain in Moneragala.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 Helicopter was deployed to assist in the efforts to douse the fire.
However, prevailing dry weather renders it difficult to contain the fire.
