The Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa met with the representatives of associations linked to the tourism industry, at his official residence in Wijerama Mawatha, yesterday (06).
The meeting was held to obtain an insight into the issues faced by the industry for the MPs who will be participating in the adjournment debate at the parliament today (07) and tomorrow (08).
The representatives of the associations told the Opposition Leader that a large number of families who had made their living in the tourism industry have become helpless following the Easter Day attacks.
Many sectors and institutes related to the tourism industry are in peril due to the fall in the arrival of tourists, pointed out the representatives.
Rajapaksa stated that they would mention this at the debate to gain the attention of the government on the matters.
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister has stated that some proposals on providing aid to restore the fallen tourism industry will be presented at the Cabinet meeting (07).
