The temporary ban imposed on WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber and other social media platforms has been lifted a short while ago, the Department of Government Information stated.
The government imposed a temporary ban on social media platforms since last night (05) owing to a tense situation that surfaced in Negombo following a clash between two groups in Kochchikade.
The security forces had curtailed the situation soon afterwards, however, police curfew was imposed in Negombo, Kochchikade, Katunayake, Divulapitiya, Kotadeniyawa, Pamunugama, Raddolugama, Seeduwa, Dungalpitiya and Katana police divisions until 7.00 a.m. this morning (06).
