Department of Meteorology says prevailing showery and cloudy condition over the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces and surrounding sea areas is likely to continue under the influence of the low pressure system in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.
Fairly strong gusty winds up to 40-50 kmph can be expected over the island, particularly over the Northern half of the island.
Fairly cold weather can be expected in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces.
Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-central, North-western, Central and Uva provinces and heavy falls of about 100mm can be expected at some places.
Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00p.m.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.
The Department of Meteorology requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
Under the influence of the low pressure system in the vicinity of Sri Lanka, showery and cloudy condition is expected to continue over the surrounding sea areas.
Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island.
Heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at some places in the sea areas extending from Hambantota to Puttalam via Batticaloa, Trincomalee and Kankesanturai.
Winds will be North-easterly over the sea areas extending from Batticaloa to Colombo via Trincomalee, Kankesanturai and Puttalam.
Winds will be North-westerly to westerly in the other sea areas around the island.
Winds speed will be 30-40 kmph over sea areas around the island and rough at times as the wind speed can increase up to 50 kmph at times.
Temporarily strong gusty winds (up to 70-80 kmph) and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Naval and fishing communities are requested to be attentive about advisories further issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
