Fairly heavy showers expected in several provinces – Meteorology Department

The Department of Meteorology says that the showery condition is expected to continue further due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of Sri Lanka.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in Northern, Eastern, North-central and Uva provinces.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere after 2.00p.m.

Fairly heavy showers about 75 mm may occur at some places in Western, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara and Kurunegala districts.

Misty conditions may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces during the morning. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Showers or thundershowers will occur in the sea areas around the island, Department of Meteorology stated.

Fairly heavy showers or thundershowers can be expected at some places over the sea areas extending from Mullaitivu to Mannar via Kankesanthurai.

Winds will be North-westerly and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph over the sea areas extending from Mannar to Hambantota via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle.

Wind speed can increase up to 45 kmph at times in these sea areas.

Winds will be easterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 15-25 kmph in the other sea areas around the island.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
